google-search-introduces-a-new-customization-option-on-mobile

Google continues to refine its Search experience as it moves beyond its traditionally minimal design. A new feature, currently rolling out to mobile devices, allows users to add color to the Google Search interface, offering a small but noticeable level of personalization.

The feature, known as “Color Your Search,” was first spotted by 9to5Google and is gradually appearing for selected users.

What Is “Color Your Search”?

The new option gives users ten different color choices to customize the appearance of Google Search.

These colors are designed to be subtle yet visually distinct, and selecting one changes the color of the top section of the Search page, including the header area. The rest of the interface remains clean and unchanged, preserving Google’s familiar look.

Limited Availability on Mobile Devices

According to reports, the feature is currently limited to larger-screen mobile devices.

So far, it has been spotted on:

  • Tablets
  • Foldable smartphones

At this stage, desktop and laptop users do not appear to have access, and the feature has not been widely seen on standard smartphones either.

Where to Find the Feature

Users who have access can locate the color customization option by:

  • Opening Google Search in a mobile browser
  • Looking to the left side of the screen next to the Search bar

The feature’s availability seems to depend on both device type and Google’s gradual rollout strategy.

A Sign of More Customization Ahead?

While the update is relatively minor, it may point toward greater customization options in the future.

One possible direction could be automatic color syncing with device themes, similar to how Android’s Material You design adapts interface colors based on wallpapers and system settings — a feature that has been widely appreciated by users.

Google Search Still Keeps Things Simple

Despite these visual tweaks, Google Search remains largely unchanged at its core. The platform continues to prioritize clarity, speed, and ease of use, even as Google experiments with:

  • AI-powered features
  • Interface refinements
  • Personalization tools
