According to official sources, the revised customs valuation has directly lowered the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) tax charged on mobile phone registration. This move has brought visible relief for users planning to register high-end models such as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Why PTA Tax Has Decreased
PTA tax is calculated based on three main components:
- Customs value of the device
- Sales tax
- Mobile levy
Since the customs value of used smartphones has been reduced, the overall tax payable during phone registration has automatically decreased. As a result, the total cost of legally using imported smartphones in Pakistan has become more affordable.
Updated PTA Tax on iPhone 15 Pro & Pro Max
Under the newly revised rates:
- PTA tax via passport registration: approximately Rs 55,000
- PTA tax via CNIC registration: approximately Rs 70,000
These figures represent a substantial reduction compared to earlier tax rates, which were considerably higher and discouraged many users from registering their devices.
Relief for Premium Smartphone Users
This decision is expected to benefit thousands of users who rely on used or imported smartphones, particularly Apple devices that attract higher taxes due to their premium pricing. Industry observers believe the move may also help reduce the number of non-PTA phones in the market.
The reduction reflects the government’s intent to ease the financial burden on consumers while encouraging lawful phone registration across the country.
