Punjab Traffic Police Breaks Record with Massive License Issuance Drive

Punjab has created a new national record by issuing more than 2 million driving licenses in just 18 days, following special directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab, officials confirmed on Friday.

According to the Punjab Traffic Police, this unprecedented achievement reflects the success of digital reforms and improved service delivery, making licensing faster and more accessible for citizens across the province.

During the record-setting period:

Officials said the numbers highlight strong public response to simplified procedures.

đź’» Online Licensing Portal Plays Key Role

Authorities credited the success largely to the online home-based licensing portal, which allowed citizens to apply or renew licenses without visiting offices.

  • 1.14 million people used the digital portal
  • Reduced queues at traffic offices
  • Faster processing and transparency

The system has proven especially helpful for working professionals and overseas Pakistanis.

⚠️ Strict Warning for Unlicensed Drivers

DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir warned that driving without a valid license is a punishable offence.

He stressed that:

  • Heavy fines and strict legal action await violators
  • Enforcement will be intensified across the province

According to officials, the rise in licensed drivers has already led to a noticeable decline in traffic accidents.

📱 E-Driving License Carries Legal Validity

The DIG also urged motorists to:

  • Use licensing centres and service centres when needed
  • Download their e-driving license, which carries the same legal status as a physical card

Traffic police continue to run awareness campaigns to educate citizens about road safety and legal compliance.
